Volunteer

 The Barre Opera House accepts volunteers year round and provides training throughout the year for new recruits.

Joining the Barre Opera House Volunteer Corps is a great way to support Central Vermont’s premier performing arts center and an opportunity to see wonderful shows at no cost.

All volunteers must be at least 14 years of age

Board Application

 

 

Ushering

Responsibilities:

- Assist patrons with seating and addressing inquiries

- Tear tickets and distribute programs

- Sell concessions before shows and during intermissions

- Ensure patron safety and comfort throughout events

- Maintain cleanliness of the theater

Requirements:

- Ability to stand for extended periods and climb stairs

- Commit to at least 6 events per season

- Attend orientation for new ushers

Dress Code:

- Black bottoms and white tops

- Comfortable shoes

Key Skills:

- Customer service orientation

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

- Attention to detail and safety awareness

Time Commitment:

- Arrive 60 minutes before event start time

- Work before, during, and after performances

Additional Notes:

- Training provided on emergency procedures and event-specific details

- Flexibility to assist with various tasks as assigned by House Manager

 

Administrative Assistance

Responsibilities:

- Assist with administrative tasks

- Stuff envelopes for bulk mailings

- Help with seasonal decorating, particularly during Christmas time

Skills Required:

- Attention to detail

- Basic organizational skills

- Willingness to work on various tasks as needed

Time Commitment: Flexible, based on current needs and your availability

Merchandise Sales

Responsibilities:

- Sell merchandise at performances and events

- Process cash and card payments

- Track merchandise inventory for artists

Skills Required:

- Basic math skills

- Friendly and outgoing personality

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

**Note:** Training will be provided for all aspects of this role

Time Commitment: Evening and weekend availability during performances

Box Office/Will Call

Responsibilities:

- Assist with will-call ticket distribution during evening performances

- Help patrons locate their tickets

- Collaborate with the Box Office Manager to troubleshoot any ticket-related issues

Skills Required:

- Customer service skills

- Ability to remain calm under pressure

- Basic computer skills

Time Commitment: Evening availability during performances

Poster Hanging

Responsibilities:

-Put up posters and flyers in different spots around Washington County (you would be assigned one town/area)

-Make sure we follow local rules

-Take pictures or notes of your work

-Keep track of when to change or take down posters

Skills Required:

-Ability to move around town and handle posters

-A way to get to different locations reliably (especially neighboring towns)

-Okay with working outside

Time Commitment: A few hours, approx. three weeks before a slated performance at the BOH (ex, if a show is on 9/20, posters should be hung up by 9/1)
