FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there tickets available on other websites?

The Barre Opera House does not provide tickets to other sellers.  We urge patrons to purchase tickets through us only. Tickets available on other websites are usually sold by ticket scalpers who charge inflated prices.  By purchasing through us, you are assured that the ticket you receive is valid.

What are the box-office hours?

Our regular box office hours are 12:00pm - 5:30pm Tuesday – Friday and 9:00am – 12pm on Saturdays. On days that there is a performance, remaining tickets go on sale in the lobby one hour before curtain.

Summer Hours are 12:00pm - 4:30pm Tuesday - Friday.

When do the doors open?

In most cases, our lobby and Will Call opens one hour prior to the performance, and theater doors open 30 minutes prior to each performance.

Do you sell food and drinks?

Due to COVID we currently only sell water.

How big is the theater?

Our house contains seating for 645 patrons which includes orchestra level and balcony. The elevator does not travel to our balcony level. The elevator is available from the ground level entrance to the lobby/orchestra level on the 2nd floor.

How do I pick-up my tickets?

“Will Call” tickets are held for you to pick-up the night of the performance. If you don’t opt for tickets to be mailed at the time of purchase, your tickets will automatically be considered “will call” and they can be collected at a table just inside the lobby entrance beginning an hour prior to each performance. Please save your ticket confirmation email.

If you cannot attend a show but would like someone else to pick-up your will-call tickets, we recommend they have your email confirmation.

If my tickets are at Will Call can I pick them up before the day of the show?

You are welcome to pick-up your Will Call tickets in advance any time that our box office is open.

Is your theater accessible?

The Barre Opera House is fully handicap accessible, except for our balcony. The Barre Opera House entrance is at the rear of the City Hall building, and is wheelchair accessible. The elevator can take patrons to the lobby/orchestra/stage and dressing rooms (but not the balcony). We have five wheelchair spaces and a 10 seat row for handicapped patrons and their companions located in an area that is closest to the lobby doors.

The BOH has an assistive listening system available for use and will print programs in Braille or large print with two weeks’ notice.

How many stairs are there if I have seats in the balcony?

Our balcony does not have elevator access. There are 10 stairs that will take you to the mezzanine level, and an additional 19 stairs to reach the balcony level. The staircase is nearly 6 feet wide with hand rails on both sides, so feel free to take your time.

How do I get there?

We are located at 6 North Main St., Barre VT 05641. You can find directions here.

Is there parking available?

Public parking is available near the Barre Opera House entrance along Merchants Row. Please do not park in the 24-hour permit parking spaces, these are spaces paid for by residence living in the downtown area.

Meters are in effect 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM weekdays.  You do not need to feed the meters on weekends, evenings, or holidays.

Can I take pictures?

Cameras and recording devices are not allowed during the show unless permission is given during the curtain speech beforehand.

Do you cancel shows due to inclement weather?

Our inclement weather policy is simple. If the traveling artist can get to the Barre Opera House for the show, the show will go on. Only if an artist cannot get to the venue will we ever cancel a show. We do not issue refunds for those who choose to stay home when the weather isn’t so good.

Do you offer discounts?
