What to Expect

Why are tickets available on other websites?

The Barre Opera House does not provide tickets to other sellers. Patrons should purchase tickets only through us. Tickets available on other websites have inflated prices and sometimes are not valid. By purchasing through us, you are assured that the ticket you receive is valid. Click here for more information.

How do I get there?

We are located at 6 North Main St., Barre VT 05641. You can find directions here.

Is there parking available?

Public parking is available near the Barre Opera House entrance along Merchants Row. Please do not park in the 24-hour permit parking spaces, as these are paid for by residents living in the downtown area.

Meters are in effect 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM weekdays. You do not need to feed the meters on weekends, evenings, or holidays.

What are the box-office hours?

Our regular box office hours are:

  • Tuesday to Friday – 12:00 noon to 5:00pm
  • Saturday – 9:00am to 12:00 noon
  • Sunday & Monday – CLOSED

On performance days, tickets go on sale one hour before the performance.

Do you offer discounts?

Members of the Barre Opera House receive discounts on Celebration Series and BOH Presents tickets. You save 10% on 1-3 shows and 20% if you purchase tickets to four or more shows. We offer Student/Senior/ADA discounts to many shows. We also offer group discounts. Please call the box office (802-476-8188) for more information.

How do I pick up my tickets?

If you choose not to have us mail you your tickets at the time of purchase, we will hold the tickets for you to pick up the night of the performance at the “Will Call” table just inside the lobby entrance beginning an hour prior to the performance.

Please save your ticket confirmation email. If you cannot attend a show but would like someone else to pick up your tickets, please give them your email confirmation.

Can I pick up my tickets before the day of the show?

You are welcome to pick up your Will Call tickets in advance whenever our box office is open.

When do the doors open?

Our lobby ordinarily opens one hour before the performance, and the theater doors open 30 minutes before the performance.

Do you sell food and drinks?

We usually sell bottled water and baked goods in the lobby before the performance and during intermission. At some shows we also sell alcoholic beverages. No food is permitted in the theater.

How big is the theater?

Our house seats 645 patrons between the orchestra and balcony levels. The balcony level does not have elevator does access. The elevator is available from the ground level entrance to the lobby and orchestra levels.

Is the theater accessible?

The Barre Opera House is fully handicap accessible except for the balcony. The entrance is at the rear of the City Hall building and is wheelchair accessible. From there, an elevator can take patrons and performers to the lobby, orchestra-level seating, stage, and dressing rooms. We have five wheelchair spaces and a row close to the lobby doors for patrons with limited mobility and their companions.

The BOH also has an assistive listening system and will print programs in Braille or large print with two weeks’ notice.

How many stairs are there to reach the balcony?

Our balcony does not have elevator access. There are 10 stairs that will take you to the mezzanine level, and an additional 19 stairs to reach the balcony level. The staircase is nearly 6 feet wide with handrails on both sides, so feel free to take your time.

Can I take pictures?

Cameras and recording devices are not allowed during the show unless permission is given during the curtain speech beforehand.

Do you cancel shows due to inclement weather?

Our inclement weather policy is simple. If the performers can get to the Barre Opera House for the show, the show will go on. We do not issue refunds to patrons who choose to stay home. Only if an artist cannot get to the venue will we ever cancel a show.
