Raffle in memory of Cassie Major
Cassie Major was a longtime volunteer at Barre Opera House and lover of life. She had owned the painting Oak Still (24x30") by artist and Barre Opera House Board of Trustees Chair Patty Meriam.
The painting was returned to Meriam after Cassie's passing, and Patty has donated the painting for a raffle to benefit Barre Opera House.
Raffle tickets are $25 each. The drawing will occur on October 10, 2026, the day of Cassie's memorial service.
A message from Patty:
"I give away a painting each November in thanks to a person who follows my art newsletter. Cassie always supported my artwork, often sending notes about my experiments and newly released works.
Cassie asked for this one, saying she had friends who called her the "mighty oak". This name rang true for my relationship with Cassie as she was a strong teacher for both my children, and steadily showed up as an usher for more than 20 years at the Opera House.
When Cassie passed away, the painting came back to me. I had no wish to sell it, and thought Cassie would want us to raffle it off to help a cause she worked hard to support.
My hope is that perhaps the painting will end up with someone who will care for it in remembrance of Cassie.
I hope the raffle winner will see the painting and reflect on being strong like a mighty oak, yet give shade and comfort to those in need."
